The counselling room is conveniently located in the town centre, close to both the Tower Ramparts and Cattle Market bus stations, as well as being a short walk from Ipswich railway station.
The room is part of a historic building owned by the Ipswich Institute, and my office is on the first floor up a flight of stairs. However, I can make alternative arrangements to use a ground floor room if required, so please do let me know.

FAQs
Many people find counselling helpful in all different types of circumstances. Your situation is unique to you, so counselling may or may not be the most helpful step for you right now. If you’re unsure if counselling is what you need, we can book in a phone call or check-in by text or email and talk through if the kind of support and change you’re looking for are areas I can support with.
I aim to be honest and open with you about how I can help. If I believe I can help you based on my experience and training, we will discuss this, alternatively I can give guidance and signposting to other support options if needed.
It’s normal to come into a first session with a range of emotions. Many clients feel some anxiety about coming in for the first time and often feed back how quickly they felt more relaxed once they were in the session. If there are any things I can do to help you feel at ease about coming in for the first time, we can agree this by phone or email before you attend.
At the start of the session there is a form to complete to ensure I have your details. It covers key information about our sessions including confidentiality, data storage and how to give feedback.
An initial session will then focus on establishing what things are like for you right now and what you would like to be different. It’s OK if you’re not sure of the answers to these — we can work it out together.
You can choose to share as much or as little information as feels comfortable for you. I will listen to you and ask some questions that will help us both see your situation more clearly.
The session may include using outcome measures (e.g. standardised evidence based questionnaires) to get really clear information and so we can check back and notice as things start to improve.
From this point, we will work together to establish a goal for our sessions — such as where you want to get to, what you want to be different, and how you will know when our sessions have been helpful.
- Human Givens Diploma
- BSc Occupational Therapy
- Enhanced DBS
We will check in on the goals we agreed at the beginning of therapy. Your feelings about how things are going, along with my feedback and looking at changes in Outcome scores will all contribute to us agreeing when you have got what you were looking for from counselling.
The decision will always be yours. You can stop anytime that’s right for you and you are always welcome to come back in future if you need to.
Please refer to the ‘Feedback and complaints’ section of the Privacy Policy.
I offer a “pay-what-you-can” option, meaning that we can negotiate a rate that works for you.
